Davante Adams made history during the Green Bay Packers’ 24-10 win over the Washington Football Teams. On a 5-yard reception during the first half of Sunday’s game, the Packers’ four-time Pro Bowl receiver passed Sterling Sharpe for second in franchise history in career receptions. Adams started the game three receptions behind Sharpe, who caught 595 passes during his seven years in Green Bay. Adams finished the day with 598 catches after hauling in six passes for 76 yards that included his 17-yard touchdown on the game’s opening drive.

Donald Driver sits atop Green Bay’s all-time list with 743 receptions.  The player Adams passed on Sunday was one of the best receivers of his era. A five-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro, Sharpe led the NFL in receptions three times, touchdown receptions on two occasions and in receiving yards in 1992. In 1992, Brett Favre’s first season in Green Bay, Sharpe led the NFL in receptions (108), receiving yards (1,461) and touchdown receptions (13). Green Bay fans fondly remember Sharpe’s three touchdown catches — including a game-winning, 40-yarder from Favre — during the Packers’ win over the Lions in the 1993 NFC wild card round, the Packers’ first playoff win in 11 years.

Adams is 155 receptions away from Driver. A three-time Pro Bowler, Driver was an integral member of Green Bay’s 2010 championship team. Driver is also Green Bay’s career leader with 10,137 receiving yards.

Adams, whose favorite receivers growing up included Randy Moss and Terrell Owens, is trying to help the Packers advance to their first Super Bowl since Green Bay defeated Pittsburgh in Super Bowl XLV. Individually, he has set his sights on NFL immortality.

“I want to be in the Hall of Fame,” Adams told CBS Sports during the offseason. “I want to go down as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, receiver of my era”
