Stetson Bennett just led the Georgia football team to its first national title in 41 years, yet some members of the Bulldogs fanbase want him gone.

Stetson Bennett has one more year of eligibility left, but some Georgia football fans hope he has played his last game in the Red and Black.

Despite leading the Dawgs to their first national title in 41 years, a poll on UGASports.com, has 63.9 percent of its voters hoping Bennett will “ride off into the sunset as a DGD.” Bennett completed 64.5 percent of his passes for 2,862 yards and 29 touchdowns to seven interceptions quarterbacking the Dawgs to a national title. However, some people are still not sold on him.

He is a Georgia legend, and has earned better than this. The questions remains is what is next?

Georgia football fans want Stetson Bennett to “ride off into the sunset as a DGD”

Bennett may not have much of an NFL future, but he will get a look by somebody, whether that is this offseason or next. He is Ian Book basically, and the New Orleans Saints took a flier on the former Notre Dame quarterback. Georgia does have a national title to defend, but Bennett has earned the right to run it back one more time. He is the new Frank Sinkwich, the new Buck Belue.

Bennett did say on Good Morning America on Tuesday that he plans on playing football in 2022. As to where that will be, that remains to be seen. Georgia does have other high-quality quarterbacks on its roster, such as JT Daniels, Brock Vandagriff and newcomer Gunner Stockton. However, there is only one Mailman, as Bennett quarterbacked Georgia to the promised land.

As for if Georgia stands a good chance at its title defense, potentially. The Dawgs will not be favored to repeat, as teams like Alabama and Ohio State will be loaded. Georgia will win somewhere around 10 or 11 regular-season games next year to be New Year’s Six Bowl bound. From there, maybe the stars will align for an unprecedented national title repeat for Georgia?

No matter how it ends, Bennett did the impossible and has earned far better treatment than this.
