If you are not a morning person, getting out of bed can be a slow and torturous process. And it’s not just people who want to hide under the blankets when the sunlight peeks through the blinds—turns out some dogs feel the same.

Eddie, an 8-year-old Yorkie mix, has gone viral on TikTok thanks to his disdain for mornings, with many finding his behavior extremely relatable.

His owner, Lisa Mattuchio, documents her battle to wake him each day on her account @eddieonwheels, which has more than 620,400 followers and 12.3 million likes.

The little dog cannot use his hind legs so has to move around on a scooter, and he sleeps wrapped in a blanket in a human-sized bed.

In one clip, which has had 1.2 million views, Mattuchio slowly approaches Eddie then peels back the blanket.

She says: “Eddie, come on, bud, it’s been about 10 minutes, come on.” This prompts the animal to begin snarling, clearly annoyed at being roused from his slumber.

Mattuchio gently moves the dog to an upright position and the growling eventually subsides.

The adorable footage, which was shared on May 4, has garnered more than 116,000 likes and over 4,000 comments.

One TikTok user wrote: “I feel the same way in the morning Eddie.”

Another, Spikey Michael, added: “Eddie needs a cup of coffee.”

Chihuahuamom posted: “Someone get Eddie a Snickers….lol.”

Daniel Sanchez joked: “Eddie called in! And he’s not getting up!”

Amanda commented: “As someone who works with special needs dogs with a rescue, I appreciate you patience with him so so much.”

Mellie Harnandez gushed: “Awh so cute… a spoiled Eddie and an ever so patient mom! Wish my mom was still here to wake up so tenderly. Jealous of Eddie!”

The dog was adopted more than three years ago by Mattuchio, who works as a nurse in a veterinary hospital and lives in Saugus, Massachusetts.

She told NBC10 Boston: “When I first got him, he didn’t seem to hate mornings, but the more he lived here, a few months in, he started getting grumpy.

“I was laughing because now he knows he is in his forever home.”

Mattuchio also explained that she shares her life with Eddie on TikTok in order to encourage other people to adopt special needs dogs.

She said: “It is important to me that I try and share and send a message that you should adopt a senior dog or a special needs dog, it is just the right thing to do.

“We go to dog parks, we walk every day, we hike. They are seniors and special needs but you can do as much with them as a 2-year-old Lab.”
