Snowboarder Shaun White might be the most well-known winter Olympic athlete, but will he be on the U.S team for the 2022 Olympics?

The 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing are less than a month away and the U.S team is still being put together. One man who has not missed a winter Olympic Games in over 16 years is Shaun White. He is arguably the best snowboarder of all time and he is vying for his fifth Winter Olympic appearance. However, now at 35 years old, White could be a last-minute addition to the team.

So the question is, will White be a member of the U.S Olympic team for Beijing? Right now the answer is probably yes, but he hasn’t exactly qualified yet. White will be competing in the last Olympic qualifying event this coming weekend at  Laax Open in Switzerland in hopes of locking up a spot. However, his Olympic hopes do not necessarily depend on a good showing in this last event. The U.S snowboarding team can take four men on the roster for the Olympics. Right now as it stands, White is sitting in that number four spot in America, 14th worldwide.

Could Shaun White be a medal contender at the 2022 Winter Olympics?

White was set to lock up his position last weekend while competing at the Mammoth Mountian qualifying event but he was forced out of the event early due to lingering COVID-19 symptoms. White’s last chance this week at Laax will be to get him on the halfpipe roster. He has competed in other events throughout his career, but halfpipe is what he is most known for.

If White accomplishes his goal of making the team this year he will be appearing in his fifth Olympic Games. He first made his Olympic debut back in 2006 when he was just 20 years old. He won the gold in halfpipe that year and since then has added a total of two more gold medals, in 2010 and 2018.
