• Jeff Bridges revealed in a (handwritten) update on his website that his cancer is now in remission.
  • The Academy Award-winning actor announced last October that he had been diagnosed with Lymphoma.
  • He also shared in his update that he was able to dance with his daughter at her wedding without the assistance of Oxygen (and shared a touching video), and that he will soon be getting back to work on his new FX series, The Old Man.

Legendary actor Jeff Bridges—an Academy Award-winner and a purveyor of ~good vibes~ at all times—revealed a whole slew of good news in the latest update on his personal website. First and foremost, he revealed that his cancer, which he revealed to the public last fall, is in remission. He also shared that he had a bout with Covid-19, was able to dance with his daughter at her recent wedding (without the assistance of Oxygen), will soon be resuming production on his upcoming FX series The Old Man, and even added in a Star Wars reference for good measure. So, in all, we can say it’s a good update.

Bridges revealed last October that he was diagnosed with Lymphoma. While he said at the time that his prognosis was “good,” he’s nonetheless been sharing updates throughout his journey, including an Instagram post where he revealed a rare look (shaved head and beard), and a previous update in January that his tumor had “drastically shrunk.”

Here’s the full text from Bridges’ update on his website, which is written out in his own handwriting (you’ll have to click through to see the video of him dancing at his daughter’s wedding, and to see his sketch of Darth Vader):

Lots has gone down since my last installment.

My cancer is in remission—the 9” x 12” mass has shrunk down to the size of a marble.

My Covid is in the rear view mirror (see the details below – Latest 3-28-21 (previous blog post))
Covid kicked my ass pretty good, but I’m double vaccinated and feeling much better now. I heard that the vaccine can help folks with Long Haulers. Maybe that’s the cause of my quick improvement.

I’ve been working out with a great therapist, Zack Wermers. We’ve been concentrating on getting me off of the Oxygen assistance, which until recently I’ve been needing to walk around. The sound it makes reminds me of Darth Vader.

I had a goal — walking my daughter, Hayley, down the aisle. She was getting married to a wonderful guy, Justin Shane.
Thanks to Zach [sic] & my terrific medical team, I was able to not only walk her down the aisle, but able to do the father/daughter dance with her WITHOUT OXYGEN.

I’m excited to get back to work on The Old Man! It’s lookin’ good—here’s a little peek:

It’s truly great to see such a positive update—in every way—from Bridges. Bridges won his Oscar back in 2010 for Crazy Heart, and has been nominated six other times (most recently in 2017 for Hell or High Water). He also famously played the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first-ever villain in 2008’s Iron Man. His most famous role, though, is most likely always going to be as The Dude, in Joel and Ethan Coen’s The Big Lebowski.

As you can tell just from his update blog above, is energy and mood is always the positive, feel-good vibe that character possessed. He’s his own person, of course, but that character is one of the all-time greats–and one that he himself has long-related to, whether it meant referencing it at his co-star’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony or reprising the role in an ad for Stella Artois.

His show, The Old Man, is a simple enough premise but one that should certainly deliver: it stars Bridges as a former intelligence officer, living off the grid, who finds himself a target, and eventually pulled back into his old life of action and espionage. It’s based on a 2017 novel of the same name, and also stars John Lithgow and Alia Shawkat. That should be enough to let you know why it’s one of our most awaited shows of 2021 (though we more likely expect it in 2022 at this point), and are thrilled to hear that Bridges is getting ready to head back to work on it soon.
