Italian luxury car-maker Lamborghini dives into the world of non-fungible token or NFT as it announced its launch of space-themed artwork called ‘Space key’. The automobile brand claimed to have created 5 keys using carbon fibers of which one was sent to the International Space Station in 2019 under a joint research project. Lamborghini further added that it would provide QR codes to those five sets of carbon fibers, and connect them to an exclusive NFT.

However, the nature of the digital media linked to these Lamborghini NFTs isn’t specified yet. But is expected to reveal more information about the NFTs soon, including what kind of unique art is at work and the name of the artist behind that. As per sources, additional details with regards to the auction house selling these items are also anticipated.

Speaking on the new development, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann stated that these digital tokens help embody the legacy of innovation that is deeply rooted in the DNA of the automaker.

“As a leading company for carbon fiber composite materials within the automotive sector, we pushed boundaries two and a half years ago with the joint research project in space. Now entering the metaverse is again proof of Lamborghini always setting sail for new horizons. The NFT world has been calling to us, and we are excited about engaging with this very passionate and innovative community.”

Notably, Lamborghini was teasing at the space-return NFTs for quite some time. However, it isn’t the only carmaker to have entered the NFT space.

Lamborghini and Co NFT craze

The news comes close on the heels of German luxury automotive marque Mercedes tweeted teaming up with Art2People to create an exclusive Mercedes-Benz NFT collection based on its G-Class vehicle line. In late December 2021, Italian luxury sports car manufacturer Ferrari’s had announced launching NFTs in cooperation with Swiss technology firm Velas Network to create non-fungible tokens for its fans.

The craze for the digital token market among the car-making brands started back in June 2021, when British manufacturer McLaren revealed its interest to utilize NFTs to create virtual versions of its legendary F1 automobiles.
