Remember the see-through dress Rose McGowan infamously wore to the 1998 VMAs? Well, Lizzo just put her own spin on the look, wearing a sheer purple fishnet-type gown to Cardi B’s recent birthday party.

This is such a serve. The iridescent dress is long-sleeve and floor-length, and she accessorized the look with butterfly clips and a long ponytail.

Fishnets seemed to be the look of the night. Page Six reports lots of the celebrities in attendance at Cardi B’s 29th-birthday party wore the material.

Lizzo is a master of eye-catching fashion. To promote “Rumors,” she recently rocked a “fake ass, fake boobs” bodysuit on the streets of Los Angeles, and then again in a choreographed TikTok to celebrate the song climbing the rap charts. In that video she danced so hard her earring popped right off, which is what we assume happened to her shoes at Cardi’s birthday (Cardi was also photographed barefoot).

On working with Cardi B on “Rumors,” Lizzo told E.T. Canada (per Revolt), “I definitely called Cardi ’cause she’s, I mean, she’s incredible. I’ve been wanting to work with her for years. Ask anybody at Atlantic [Records], the day she got signed I was like, ‘I want a song with Cardi B!’”

She continued, “So, when I finally had a song on the level, that was perfect for us, I hit her up and sent it to her and she loved it and sent her verse through. Because of COVID, you know, we couldn’t be together, but we FaceTimed. The rest is herstory.”

Lizzo took to Instagram Live on Sunday, August 15, to address some of the negative comments online sparked by the “Rumors” video. “It’s fatphobic, it’s racist, and it’s hurtful,” she said. “What I won’t accept is y’all doing this to Black women over and over and over again, especially us big Black girls…. When we don’t fit into the box that you want to put us in, you just unleash hatred onto us. It’s not cool. I’m doing this shit for the big Black women in the future who just want to live their lives without being scrutinized or put into boxes.”
