Another one could come down to the wire in the 2022 Memorial Tournament this week at Muirfield Village Golf Club. The tournament tees off Thursday, and five of the last eight tournaments on the Dublin, Ohio course have ended in a playoff. That includes last year, when Patrick Cantlay defeated Collin Morikawa on the first extra hole to win The Memorial for a second time. He also won in 2019 and seeks to become the third golfer, along with Kenny Perry and Tiger Woods, to win the event at least three times. World No. 2 Jon Rahm, hopes to join Cantlay as a two-time winner after having to withdraw on Saturday night last year (COVID-19) while holding a six-stroke lead.

Rahm, who won The Memorial in 2020, is the 10-1 favorite in the latest 2022 Memorial Tournament golf odds from Caesars Sportsbook. Rory McIlroy is hot on his heels at 11-1, while Cantlay is priced at 14-1. Jordan Spieth (18-1), Morikawa (20-1), Cameron Smith (20-1) and Xander Schauffele (20-1) also are expected to be top contenders in the Memorial Tournament 2022 field. Can Cantlay continue a strong run that started with his win in Dublin last year and be worth the money ($10,700 at DraftKings) to have him among your 2022 Memorial Tournament picks? Or would a golfer like red-hot Davis Riley (40-1; $8,600) be a better value and set you up to win?

Before setting your Fantasy golf rankings or any 2022 Memorial Tournament bets, be sure you check out the Fantasy golf projections from SportsLine fantasy expert Riley Gates.

Gates is a writer for 247Sports and has covered a range of sports for nearly five years. He has followed golf closely for much longer and has a profound knowledge of the sport. He also knows what it takes to win, on the course and in fantasy sports.

At last week’s Charles Schwab Challenge, three of Gates’ top six picks finished in the top four on the final leaderboard, including winner Sam Burns and runner-up Scottie Scheffler. Before the PGA, Gates had both winner Justin Thomas and 30-1 shot Zalatoris, who lost to Thomas in a playoff, among his top five picks.

Gates has been on a roll all season. Before the Wells Fargo Championship, four of his top six players finished in the top five. That included winner Max Homa, a 40-1 long shot, and runners-up Keegan Bradley (35-1) and Matt Fitzpatrick (22-1). He also nailed Jon Rahm as the winner in the Mexico Open, and eight of his 20 picks finished in the top eight at the Masters. Anyone who has followed Gates is way up.

Now, Gates has ranked his top golfers for the 2022 Memorial Tournament (see tickets at StubHub), and you’ll really want to see what he has to say. You can only see his Fantasy golf rankings and Memorial Tournament picks at SportsLine.

2022 Memorial Tournament golf expert picks

Gates says you have to have McIlroy among your picks this week, given his strong run of high finishes. The Northern Irishman has three top-10s in a row, including a runner-up at the Masters and an eighth-place at the PGA. McIlroy is the leader in scoring average, and nearly all of his stats are among the best on tour. He is smashing the ball off the tee (third in driving distance) and making his putts (34th in strokes gained) and everything in between. His play from the sand (19th in saves) and around the green (30th in strokes gained) also will help a lot this week.

On the other hand, Gates is fading Morikawa despite his pedigree and status as a favorite. The 25-year-old already has two major championships and five tour wins, but he is in a bit of a funk. He hasn’t finished in the top 25 in his past four events, breaking 70 just four times in those 16 rounds. Morikawa won the Workday Charity Open on this course in 2020 and was the runner-up at last year’s Memorial, but his recent inconsistency raises red flags. And his putting (120th in strokes) and work around the greens (160th) don’t point to success this time around.
