Powerball winning numbers were 35, 36, 47, 61, 63 for last night’s May 1 drawing. The Powerball was 03 and the Power Play was X3.

Once again, no-one won the jackpot, according to the Powerball website.

It means that last week’s $129 million top prize is expected to rise to $142 million (with a cash value of $97.9 million) for the next drawing on Thursday, May 6.

Five people successfully matched four numbers plus the Powerball to win $50,000, with another five winning $150,000 thanks to a Power Play purchase.

Nearly 300 tickets (293) matched four balls without the Powerball for a $100 prize. Of these, 81 had a Power Play to triple their winnings to $300.

The Powerball jackpot has been creeping up in recent weeks. It was last won on March 27, when a player from Florida scooped $238 million. That winning ticket was bought at a Publix, located in Lutz.

Next week’s estimated $142 million jackpot is still a long way short of the biggest Powerball prize on offer.

Three players—based in California, Florida, and Tennessee—shared the $1.586 billion jackpot when they matched all five balls and the Powerball on January 13, 2016.

How to play Powerball

Drawings usually take place twice a week on a Wednesday and Saturday night, at 10:59 p.m. ET. Each draw is broadcast live from the lottery studio which is located in Tallahassee, Florida.

Players select five numbers from 1 to 69, in addition to one red Powerball number from 1 to 26. Each ticket costs $2 per play.

In certain circumstances, players can also multiply non-jackpot prizes by using the Power Play option for an additional $1.

Each ticket has the same chance of winning. There is a 1 in 24.9 chance of winning any prize, according to Powerball’s official website.

The odds of winning the big jackpot (set to be £142 million next time around) are astronomically higher at 1 in 292,201,338.

Winners can choose to either select their prize as an annuity, or for significantly less, a lump-sum payment. The annuity option sees the winner receive 30 annual payments over the space of 29 years, with each payment increasing by five percent until the 30th and final payment.

Where can you play?

Powerball, along with Mega Millions, is one of the most popular multi-state lotteries in the U.S.

You can play in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Lottery tickets are not sold in Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah.

You will no longer be able to purchase tickets in Idaho from August 2021 after state lawmakers voted to end the lottery there over concerns about foreign participation.

Later this year, Powerball is set to expand outside the U.S., with Australia included in 2021. The game will also be available to play in the U.K. in 2022.
