Reportedly, Sony is aiming to launch its next Xperia 1 flagship in under six months’ time. Based on new rumours, the Sony Xperia 1 VI will line with up during MWC 2024 with improved telephoto optics.

According to reports, Sony intends to join the likes of Samsung and Xiaomi by releasing its next flagship earlier in the calendar year than it has previously. As we have discussed in relation to the Galaxy S24 series, Qualcomm is expected to make the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 available only 11 months after the release of its predecessor. Thus, various Android OEMs are now anticipated to follow suit, with the Galaxy S24 series purportedly on track for a January 2024 introduction.

In recent years, Sony has been gradually bringing forward the releases of its Xperia 1 flagships. For example, while the company announced the Xperia 1 III in April, the handset remained in limbo until August of the same year. Unfortunately, long lead times have remained since for the Xperia 1 series, particularly this year’s Xperia 1 V. If new rumours are correct, the Xperia VI may debut during MWC 2024, which GSMA will host between February 26 and February 29.

Moreover, Sony is said to be working on more changes than an obligatory upgrade to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Reputedly, the company is developing the Xperia 1 VI with an improved telephoto camera that could outshine those in other modern flagships, such as the Galaxy S23 Ultra and the iPhone 15 Pro Max. While the Xperia 1 V is no slouch in this area, the Xperia 1 VI is rumoured to support 6x optical zoom with a 140 mm equivalent focal length.
