The Attico Fall 2021 Ready-to-Wear

In May, as soon as lockdown restrictions eased, Gilda Ambrosio and Giorgia Tordini jumped on a plane and flew to Ibiza, where they shot their fall look book: “We love the island; it’s our happy place,” Tordini said on a Zoom call from a boat off Positano. The Attico girls definitely know how to enjoy life. The brand’s party spirit and joie de vivre have only been tangentially tarnished by the pandemic: “We just had to put it on hold, but the fire is still burning under the ashes!”

The Attico business is growing, so a disciplined consideration for the laws of the market is required—sailing and party hopping notwithstanding. Hinting at a more efficient and active mindset, the fall offer was strong in individual everyday pieces: chunky jumpers with matching crocheted scarves, bralettes and bonnets, mannish oversized blazers, XXL cargos, and skintight pants split at the front.

But glamming up what’s practical is part of the M.O. here. Sexy, grungy styling helped facilitate the process: Sequined minidresses, slinky tops, and drapey numbers in crushed velvet and satin were layered under or over less alluring propositions. After peeling off an enveloping hand-knit wool maxi cardi, the skimpiest minidress emerged in all its sequined splendor, ready for the wildest cave rave.

“It’s easy to fall under Ibiza’s spell; the nature has such a powerful vibe,” said Ambrosio. The island inspired the collection not only in the expressive freewheeling styling, but also in the deep earth tones referencing the rocky beaches, forests, and caverns; in images of sunsets printed on denim pieces and sequined dresses; in the hippy, organic vibe of talismanic stone necklaces and dream-catcher-feathers trimmings. Yet the iridescent shine of vinyl, and the fluorescent, acidic textures punctuating the collection hinted at a different vibe, more lysergic and nocturnal. “We wanted to reconnect with the magnetism of its nature, but we know that Ibiza’s nights are a frenzy of glamour. We’re ready to celebrate both options!” Cheers to that.
