The Sony Xperia PRO will not sell well, for many reasons. On the one hand, it features outdated hardware for a smartphone released in 2021, such as its Snapdragon 865 SoC. On the other hand, the Xperia PRO offers essentially the same experience as the Xperia 1 II while costing over twice as much as its sibling. The Xperia PRO is reasonably priced for a smartphone that can act as a camera monitor with built-in 5G connectivity, one of Sony’s primary use cases for the device.
Accordingly, the Xperia PRO has a plastic body, a choice that should maximise its signal strength and its drop protection. The Xperia 1 II has a glass back, so it would probably not survive long as a camera accessory. Plastic smartphones tend to be easy to snap though, as the Pixel 4 series demonstrated.
JerryRigEverything’s most recent durability test has shown that the Xperia PRO will remain intact even if someone tries to bend it deliberately. Better still, the plastic frame appears to distribute the pressure evenly and stops the glass display from cracking. Unsurprisingly, it requires little force to scratch the device’s plastic housing.
Overall, we would recommend that most people purchase the Xperia 1 II instead of the Xperia PRO. However, if you have a professional camera and are considering upgrading your camera monitor and smartphone simultaneously, then the Xperia PRO could be a good option. Admittedly, this will be a niche group, which is another reason why the Xperia PRO will probably sell poorly.
