Spirited, the AppleTV+ movie starring Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell, is the latest contemporary retelling of Charles Dickens’ classic novel A Christmas Carol. It follows on from other adaptations and reimaginings, like the Bill Murray comedy Scrooged and the less-said-about-it-the-better Matthew McConaughey comedy Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. In the film, Ferrell the Ghost of Christmas Present, who is sent to Earth to teach Reynolds’ character, a smarmy, cynical and jaded media consultant, how to be a better person.

Oh, and did we mention it’s a musical?

Reynolds just shared a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the rehearsals for one of the movie’s big musical numbers, in which he and Ferrell—well, mostly Ferrell—can be seen struggling to keep up with the choreography.

“You’ve got to be willing to be bad at something if you want to be… slightly less bad at it?” He wrote in the caption for the YouTube video. “Here’s Will Ferrell and I proving that point!”

You wouldn’t think that some simple dance steps would prove to be much of a challenge for Reynolds, considering the amount of stunt work and fight choreography he has taken on as the star of the Deadpool franchise as well as action movies like 6 Underground and Red Notice. That said, the actor has spoken recently about doing fewer of those physically demanding projects in the future.

“You’re not allowed to eat Advil like cereal,” he said earlier this year. “Things start to hurt. After I turned 35, being thrown onto cement wasn’t hilarious anymore. It had been upgraded to hell.”

“I really like physicality in movies,” he added. “I think it’s important to do as much of [the stunt work] yourself as you can, but I’ll step aside when there’s something that’s just too gnarly and there’s a trained professional ready to go.”
