Multiple shots were reportedly fired outside the Grant Hyatt Hotel at the San Francisco Airport Monday night, and police said when they arrived on the scene they found a woman suffering from a bullet wound in the leg.

The San Francisco Police Department responded to the shooting on a roadway in front of the hotel just before 8 p.m. and said the suspect fled the scene, according to a statement.

A Twitter user said he witnessed the incident and called it, the “Craziest thing I’ve ever seen.”

“Just saw a shootout in broad daylight at the Grand Hyatt SFO,” wrote Brooks Taylor. “Multiple gunmen. Handguns, assault rifles, etc. It was nuts … There were multiple shots fired before I ran to the window …”

Taylor told SFGATE he was staying at the hotel when he heard the shots. “The windows are actually really thick and I was remarking on how I could not hear any of the planes. Then we heard what sounded like a car back firing … We rushed to the window.”

Taylor said he saw two separate groups firing guns; one group was on the road that passes in front of the hotel entrance and the other was in the hotels’ valet area.

“There were probably five or 10 shots fired before we even got to the window,” he said.

SFPD could not confirm the number of suspects or shots fired. “We are not providing further details of the shooting due to the open and active investigation and investigators are still gathering information,” the department said. “There is no suspect description to provide at this time nor is the suspect in custody.”

When police arrived, they located an adult female victim suffering from injuries caused by a gunshot. The victim was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

ABC 7 news reported that initial reports said there was an active shooter in the area. “The investigation determined that incident was not an active shooter and that the location of the shooting was located near the roadway and not inside an airport building,” SFPD said in a statement.
