After spending countless hours washing dishes by hand, one Twitter user was shocked to discover that, unbeknownst to him, his apartment actually did contain a dishwasher.

On Wednesday, Tom Hale shared with his followers that he’d just discovered that his apartment — the one he’s lived in for the last two years — has a dishwasher that he’d long believed was just a “fake cupboard.”

“I’ve wasted days of my life washing up,” he said.

So far, the tweet has amassed over 33,000 likes. Popular Instagram page, The Archbishop of Banterbury, shared the tweet as well, and commenters have been quick to share their thoughts on the matter.

Many Twitter users believe Hale is lying for internet clout, claiming he would’ve tried to open the alleged “fake cupboard” at least once over the years.

Asked one user: “What would be behind the space? There had to be something? Why would you not pull it? I have more questions now than answers you’ve found.”

Others agreed, but Hale was quick to call out his doubters.

“Remarkable amount of men (it’s all men) trying to call bullsh*t on this,” he tweeted. “I’m flattered they think so highly of me.”

Some Twitter users were quick to gloss over the discovery altogether and jumped right into criticizing Hale for placing his Moka pot in the machine.

“Apart from the obvious comment, can I point out that it isn’t a good idea to put your Moka pot through a wash, especially with the rubber seal in,” asked one commenter.

Another piped in, asking: “Is that a Bialetti in the dishwasher?”

“I’m a dishwasher novice, clearly,” Hale quipped back.

Many users, however, were quick to support Hale and share their personal experiences with hidden cupboards, rooms, etc. they’d found in their own homes.

“My brother had lived in a terrace house for just over 3 years when he asked me to replace the living room carpet with wood flooring,” shared one user. “Went round, rolled the carpet/underlay back and there was a hatch to an entire ground floor cellar he never knew existed.”

Another commenter shared that they’d once discovered a hidden dishwasher in their apartment, too.

“This happened to us at university! We discovered the dishwasher the day we were emptying the cupboards to move out…not sure we spent much time washing dishes before then though or putting them away – hence not discovering the dishwasher in the fake cupboard.”

Stories and jokes aside, someone had one piece of advice for Hale: “Check the other areas that look like wood decor- a pull down under sink in a house contained rolls of cash Banknote with [a] dollar sign an ole couple stored there!!!”

Hale isn’t the only person to have recently discovered something hidden in his home. Just last week, a couple found a secret room in theirs after recently buying the property.
